Sleep deprivation has been shown to mess with our hormones and cause weight gain. When we do not get enough sleep, ghrelin (hunger hormone) increases and leptin (satiety hormone) decreases. We also become temporarily insulin resistance. Not a good combination if we want to lose weight.
