Carnivore Diet on a Budget

Carnivore Diet on a Budget

Are you wanting to start the carnivore diet but the price of steak holding you back? How can anyone afford to eat ribeyes every day? I am here to tell you that the carnivore diet does not have to be expensive!

Does it have to be expensive?

The first thing to know is that the carnivore diet does not mean you have to eat only steak. There is a wide range of animal foods you can choose from (all types of meat including chicken, pork and fish). I think that knowing this makes the diet more approachable. So what budget-friendly carnivore diet foods can you include that will not break the bank?

#1 Ground Beef

This is the most cost effective way to get the benefits of beef, without the heafty price tag! The bonus is, ground beef is very versatile! You can make burgers, meatballs or mix it with scrambled eggs. One thing I like to do is make it into a burrito bowl with some bacon, sour cream and topped with shredded cheese.

#2 Eggs

Eggs are one of my favourite foods, not just because they taste good but because they are extremely nutritious! They are underrated for how nutritionally complete they are. They make up for nutrients that beef muscle meat is low in such as: choline, vitamin K2, selenium and vitamin E.

#3 Tinned Fish

I am specifically talking about salmon, sardines, mackerel, herring and anchovies. These cold-water, oily fish are nutrition powerhouses! A lot of carnivore promoters talk about eating nose-to-tail, that is, eating all organ meats and different parts of the animal. But if you are eating a sardines, for example, you are eating the whole animal - right down to the bones!

Similar to eggs, tinned fish compliments beef. Especially in terms of omega 3, vitamin D and Iodine. Buy these fish in water and not in oil.

#4 Roasts

In general, roasts (beef rib, beef brisket, lamb leg, whole chicken, etc.) are cheaper than steak. These are a good way to get a lot of meat, for a low price. If you slow cook a roast you will have leftover meat for a couple of days.

#5 Bone Broth

You can use bones you already have or buy some from your butcher and make bone broth at home. It is really easy to make and will take your cooking to a whole new level! You can make soups, slow cook your meat in it or drink it as is.

When you prepare it yourself, tallow seperates and you can use that for cooking.
